Gopalgonj: The 46th death anniversary of Mukundalal Sarker, a significant figure in the anti-British Movement and the war of 1971, will be observed tomorrow.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mukundalal Sarker was born in 1909 at Dharmaryer Bari Village in Muksedpur Upazila of Gopalgonj district. Throughout his extensive political career, he played a crucial role in resisting imperialist forces and actively engaged in the movement against the Zamindary system. His commitment to the cause led to multiple detentions during the British rule.
In 1965, he was imprisoned under the defense of Pakistan rule. Sarker maintained close ties with prominent leaders such as Hussain Shaheed Suhurawardy, Sher-e-Bangla A K Fazlul Huq, and Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani.
To commemorate the day, an improved diet will be distributed among the residents of Highsur Old Home, followed by a special prayer at 11 am at the same venue.
