Dhaka: A Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court has sentenced auto-rickshaw driver Md Belal, 33, to one month in jail for attacking a police sergeant at Manik Mia intersection in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media and Public Relations Division stated that traffic police were conducting a drive against illegal battery-operated auto-rickshaws at Manik Mia crossing on October 8. As part of this operation, 17 battery-powered auto-rickshaws were sent to the Basila dumping ground.
The release further mentioned that while the traffic police were on duty, auto-rickshaw driver Belal suddenly attacked a police sergeant in the presence of pedestrians and other auto-rickshaw drivers. Following the incident, police arrested Belal at the Manik Mia intersection and took him to Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
Subsequently, Belal was presented before a Special Metropolitan Magistrate Court, which resulted in his sentencing to one month in jail.
