Chattogram: Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) conducted a joint operation at three hideouts of top terrorists and apprehended three individuals, seizing a significant cache of arms, ammunition, and drugs.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CMP police provided this information in a press release today.
The release detailed that under the supervision of CMP Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Amirul Islam, the Chandgaon and Panchlaish police stations, supported by SWAT teams, conducted the operation across various locations from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning. During this operation, the police arrested Md. Belal, 28, Hridoy Barua, 30, and Md. Azad, 23.
Deputy Police Commissioner (North) Amirul Islam disclosed that a total of 13 firearms were confiscated from the suspects. The haul included five foreign pistols, a foreign single-barreled short gun, two foreign single-barreled long guns, two country-made short gun-like pipe guns, a country-made short shooter gun, and two country-made single-barreled long guns. In addition to the firearms, authorities recovered 58 live gun cartridges, two shells, 13 pistol magazines, 95 pistol bullets, and nine firecrackers.
The operation also led to the seizure of Tk 4,20,000 in cash, a money-counting machine, two walkie-talkies, a drone, seven CCTV cameras, two DVRs, two drill machines, an electric cutter, a rod cutter blade, a knife, four wrenches of varying sizes, a monitor, two pliers, a tip knife, 12 iron rods of different sizes, 3,500 pieces of Yaba, 5.5 kg of marijuana, and a motorcycle.
Deputy Police Commissioner Amirul Islam highlighted that at least 30 terrorists, including notorious figures Shahidul Islam and Ayub Ali, managed to escape after sensing the police's presence. Legal actions have been initiated against both the captured and fugitive suspects.
