Rangpur: A condolence meeting and Dua mehfil were held at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium by the Rangpur district BNP in memory of Anisur Rahman Laku, the late member-secretary of the Rangpur District BNP. The event was chaired by the district BNP convener, Md Saiful Islam.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the gathering was attended by BNP standing committee member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, who served as the chief guest. Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, BNP joint secretary general and a former Rangpur district BNP general secretary, was the keynote discussant, highlighting the life and contributions of Anisur Rahman Laku, who was esteemed for his political commitment to the BNP.
The event also featured speeches from BNP central executive committee organizing secretary for Rangpur division, Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, and assistant organizing secretaries Md Abdul Khaleque and Professor Aminul Islam, who participated as special guests. Other speakers included Rangpur metropolitan BNP convener Samsuzzaman Samu, member-secretary Advocate Mahfuz Un Nabi Don, and Anisur Rahman Laku’s son-in-law Redwan Himel, along with BNP leaders from all eight upazilas.
Speakers at the event remembered Laku for his integrity, patriotism, and organizational skills, urging BNP members to emulate his principles in serving the public. Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel remarked on Laku’s honesty and dedication, emphasizing the need for leaders like him to achieve the vision of a new Bangladesh as outlined by acting BNP chairman Tarique Rahman.
Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain paid tribute to Laku, advocating for the continuation of BNP politics in line with Laku’s ideals. He recalled Laku’s popularity and leadership roles within Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and BNP, and encouraged prayers for Laku’s soul and support for his family.
Prayers followed the meeting, honoring Laku, who passed away at 53 due to a cardiac arrest. He suffered the heart attack at Sherpur point in Bogura on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway while returning from Dhaka. Laku was accompanied by Md Saiful Islam, who took him to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed during treatment.
