Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that the Election Commission (EC) is committed to delivering a transparent, fair, and credible election to the nation, while urging for collective cooperation to achieve this goal.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC made these remarks during a view-exchange meeting held with election experts at the Election Commission Secretariat in Agargaon. The meeting was attended by ten election experts, all former election officials, who engaged in discussions about the upcoming electoral challenges.
The CEC highlighted the emergence of new challenges as the elections approach, emphasizing the dual challenge of managing these issues while conducting elections under a specific governmental framework. He described the forthcoming elections as a crucial endeavor, expressing a personal commitment to contribute positively to the country.
Nasir Uddin stressed that the responsibility of ensuring a credible election cannot rest solely on the Election Commission. He called for the involvement of the general public, media, and political entities to collaborate in the electoral process, stating that progress is only possible with united efforts.
Addressing the attending election experts, Nasir Uddin acknowledged their expertise, inviting them to identify potential electoral loopholes and suggest measures to avert manipulation. He also noted that previous dialogues had been conducted with civil society, urging participants to share insights and experiences to bolster the electoral process.
Four election commissioners and senior EC secretariat officials were present at the meeting, chaired by CEC Nasir Uddin. This gathering followed an earlier dialogue on Monday with major media editors and senior journalists, who emphasized the need to rebuild voter trust and ensure participatory and transparent elections.
Journalists underscored the importance of organizing elections free from controversy and political manipulation. The dialogue series commenced on September 28, involving various stakeholders in preparation for the national elections.
