Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuj Alam today stated that the fair demands of the Hindu community can be fulfilled in phases, as the present interim government is working to implement their legitimate rights. “The upcoming government will also be mindful of fulfilling the rightful demands of the Hindu religious community,” he said. The adviser made these remarks while addressing the Durga Puja celebration at Dhaka University’s Jagannath Hall this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser extended Durga Puja greetings to the Hindu community and remarked that their traditions are an integral part of the nation’s history. He emphasized the historical unity and joint struggle of Hindus and Muslims in Bangladesh. Mahfuj Alam reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building a multi-lingual, multi-cultural, and multi-traditional Bangladesh while maintaining communal harmony.

He noted that this year’s Durga Puja is being celebrated in a more colorful and festive atmosphere compared to last year, as the government has taken measures to enhance the festivities. He thanked all concerned, including members of the Hindu community, for supporting peaceful celebrations.

Criticizing the former Sheikh Hasina government’s actions during the July uprising, the adviser alleged that people were killed by helicopter gunfire under the orders of the then prime minister. He called for cooperation from all communities to build a discrimination-free, developed Bangladesh.

The event was attended by Education Adviser Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Dhaka University Political Science Professor Tasnim Siddiqui, and members of the Durga Puja celebration committee. Later, the adviser visited the Dakeshwari Puja Mandap and exchanged greetings with members of the Hindu community.
