Khagrachari: Khagrachari is gradually getting normal after suspension of the indefinite road-blockade programme over an alleged rape incident in the district. Khagrachari Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Baten Mridha said people’s life is returning to normal after Jumma Chhatra-Janata called off the blockade till October 5.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the organization announced on its Facebook page that the road cease programme was suspended after receiving assurances from the administration for the implementation of their eight-point demands, and to ensure the Hindu community can smoothly celebrate Durga Puja. Traffic is seen plying as no untoward incident has occurred anywhere, the OC said.

A number of long-distance vehicles left the district in the morning, but the transportation has not yet resumed in full swing. Passengers’ presence at bus counters has increased as limited movement of vehicles has also started in the city and suburbs. Shops have started opening after being closed for four days.

However, section 144 issued by the district administration remains in force as additional security measures continue in Khagrachari and Guimara. Army, BGB, and police surveillance are underway in these areas. Meanwhile, a five-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the recent incidents in Khagrachari and Guimara.
