Dubai: Mustafizur Rahman became the top wicket-taker for Bangladesh in T20 International cricket after claiming one for 33 in four overs against India in a crucial Asia Cup Super Fours contest today at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mustafizur achieved this milestone by taking his total tally to 150 wickets in 118 matches, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan’s record of 149 wickets in 129 matches. This achievement also marks Mustafizur as the first Bangladeshi bowler to have claimed 150 wickets in T20 International cricket.

The record-breaking moment seemed inevitable after Mustafizur equaled Shakib’s tally by taking three wickets for just 19 runs against Sri Lanka in Bangladesh’s five-wicket victory in the previous match. Against India, Mustafizur played a crucial role by applying pressure towards the end of the innings after India’s strong start, led by Avishek Sharma.

Mustafizur’s pivotal moment came when he claimed the wicket of Indian captain Suriyakumar Yadav, ensuring that India could not fully capitalize on Avishek’s aggressive beginning. India, who scored 80 runs in the first six overs, ended their innings at 168-6, presenting Bangladesh with a strong opportunity to secure a win.
