Nine Panels Announced for RUCSU Election Battle

Rajshahi: A total of nine panels have been announced to contest the upcoming elections for the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (RUCSU), Hall Councils, and Student Representatives to the Senate, scheduled for September 25.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, these nine panels include six supported by political parties, one led by former coordinators of the anti-discrimination movement, and two independent groups.

The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and Sammilita Shikkharthi Jote have each announced a 23-member panel for the polls. The panels in the election are JCD, Sammilita Shikkharthi Jote, Sarbajanin Shikkharthi Sangsad, Adhipatyabirodhi Oikya, Gonotantrik Shikkharthi Parishad, RUCSU for Radical Change, Sachetan Shikkharthi Sangsad, Aprotirodhya-24, and Swatantra Shikkharthi Jote.

Key candidates from these panels include Sheikh Nur Uddin Abir, Nafiul Jibon, and Jahin Biswash Esha from JCD; Mustakur Rahman Jahidi, Fazley Rabbi Muhammad Fahim Reja, and SM Salman Rabbi from Sammilita Shikkharthi Jote; and Tasin Khan, Rajan Al Ahmed, and Mahair Islam from Sarbajanin Shikkharthi Sangsad, among others.

The election marks a significant return to student representation at Rajshahi University after a 35-year hiatus. The revised election schedule included nomination distribution until September 3, with scrutiny completed by September 9. The preliminary candidate list was published on September 10, with objections addressed by September 11. The final candidate list will be published tomorrow.

Polling is set to take place in the university's academic buildings from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on September 25. Preparation efforts are in full swing, fostering a lively and enthusiastic atmosphere across the campus.
