Dhaka: Additional IGP of Bangladesh Police Md Rezaul Karim has assumed charge as the Chief of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, immediately after joining the ATU, Karim instructed all levels of the force to enhance their efficiency and stay up-to-date, as stated in an ATU press release.
Karim distinguished himself by passing the 15th BCS and began his career in the Bangladesh Police as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) on November 15, 1995. Over his extensive career, he held various positions across numerous regions including Bogura, Lalmonirhat, Khagrachhari, Chandpur, Rajbari, Chapainawabganj, Natore, Jhenaidah, and others. He served in the Khulna Metropolitan Police, Highway Police, CID, SB, PTC Noakhali, RRF Dhaka, and ATU, and was most recently the Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.
His commendable service has been recognized with the PPM-Service Medal and the IGP Badge on two occasions, highlighting his honesty, talent, and efficiency in duty. Karim completed his undergraduate and postgraduate education in Applied Physics and Electronics from the University of Dhaka. His professional development includes advanced training in countries such as Bangladesh, USA, and Australia.
Additionally, Karim has held significant roles in United Nations peacekeeping missions in Liberia and East Timor, further contributing to his extensive experience in law enforcement and international operations.
