Jahangirnagar: The voting for the eagerly awaited elections to the Jahangirnagar University Central Students’ Union (JUCSU) and hall unions concluded today at 6.30 pm.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, over 70 percent of registered voters participated in the election process. The election commission is optimistic about finalizing the results by midnight, marking the end of a significant democratic exercise on campus.

The polls commenced as scheduled at 9 am across 21 centers, which included 224 booths located in 11 male and 10 female residential halls. In a first for JUCSU elections, optical mark recognition (OMR) technology-based ballot forms were utilized to facilitate the voting process.

Many first-time voters expressed their enthusiasm about engaging in a democratic process after a 33-year hiatus. The long wait heightened the anticipation and excitement among the student body.

To maintain order and security during the elections, 1,500 police personnel, seven platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and five platoons of Ansar were deployed throughout the campus. Additional security forces were positioned both inside and outside the premises to avert any potential disturbances.
