DUCSU VP Candidate Jalal Ahmed Granted Bail in Attempted Murder Case

Dhaka: A court here today granted bail to Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) independent vice president (VP) candidate Jalal Ahmed in a case filed on the charges of attempting to murder his roommate at a residential hall. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order following a hearing.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court heard both sides and granted bail on a bond of Tk. 5,000, as confirmed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prosecution Mainuddin Chowdhury. Earlier, on August 27, Shahbagh police arrested VP candidate Jalal and produced him before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court.



Sub Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, who is also the investigation officer, Asadul Islam, presented Jalal and requested that he be sent to jail until the investigation into the case is completed. Conversely, Jalal’s lawyer appealed for his bail. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman heard both sides and decided to send him to jail.



On the same day, the university authorities filed an attempted murder case against Jalal with Shahbagh Police Station, as stated by the police.
