Dhaka: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) tonight reported a violent clash between activists of two political parties in Kakrail, Dhaka, causing unrest in the area.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the incident occurred around 8:00 pm, resulting in several injuries. The police initially attempted to control the crowd, but the escalating violence led to the deployment of army personnel after some police officers were attacked and injured.
Law enforcement authorities urged both political groups to maintain calm, comply with the law, and resolve their differences peacefully. Despite these warnings, some activists organized a mob, attacked the police, and engaged in violent behavior.
By around 9:00 pm, the situation worsened as activists conducted a torch march, hurled bricks, and attempted to set buildings on fire. The unrest significantly disrupted public movement in nearby areas such as Bijoynagar and Nayapaltan.
The ISPR statement highlighted that the army aimed to avoid using force but was compelled to intervene due to the circumstances. In the process, five army members sustained injuries while working to restore order.
The ISPR emphasized the Bangladesh government's zero-tolerance policy against mob violence. It affirmed that the army is prepared to act decisively against any form of violence to ensure public safety, peace, and the maintenance of law and order.
