Chattogram: Leaders and workers of Gano Odhikar Parishad (GOP) and Student Alliance on Anti-Discrimination (SAD) today staged agitation and blockade programs in front of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) headquarters demanding arrest and punishment of culprits responsible for attacking Gona Adhikar President Nurul Haq Nur.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the blockade program around the CMP HQ in the Dampara area of the city lasted for one hour, beginning from 2 pm. The protesters agreed to withdraw the program after CMP officials assured them of taking proper action against the miscreants and armed hoodlums, including absconding Jatiya Party leaders.
Before the blockade program, GOP and SAD organized a procession and put barricades on roads in the Sholoshahar No-2 gate and Muradpur areas, resulting in prolonged traffic gridlock and inconvenience to commuters.
They also staged demonstrations and held protest rallies at different parts of the city following the attack on GOP president Nurul Haq Nur in the capital the previous evening.
Speaking at a rally, Central Organizing Secretary of GOP Lokman Hossain stated they are determined to launch fresh action programs if the government fails to bring the attackers of Nurul Haq Nur to justice within the next 24 hours.
They also demanded that CMP immediately arrest JP Presidium Member Solaiman Alam Shet and other accused involved in different cases related to killings and attacks on students and masses during the July uprising last year.
GOP Standing Committee Member Jasim Uddin Akash, Central Joint Secretary Kamrun Nahar Doly, SAD city coordinator Ridwan Siddique, Member Nusrat Jahan Pinti, and NCP Member Azgar Ali, among others, attended the rally.
