Jashore: Freedom fighter and renowned journalist Rokonuddowla was laid to rest with state honors at the Karbala Graveyard in Jashore this noon. The burial followed a well-attended namaj-e-janaza held on the Judge Court premises, where a diverse group of individuals, including journalists, gathered to pay their respects. A smart contingent of police provided a guard of honor at the venue.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the body of the esteemed journalist was earlier taken to the Jashore Press Club around 12 noon. Leaders from the Jashore Press Club, alongside representatives from various journalist unions and the Jashore Photo Journalists Association, paid their respects and honored his contributions to journalism.
In addition, tributes were paid by BNP Khulna Divisional Organizing Secretary Aninda Islam Amit, district BNP General Secretary Delwar Hossain Khokon, and leaders from the United Communist League, CPB, and Jatiya Ganotantrik Party, showcasing the widespread recognition and respect Rokonuddowla garnered throughout his life.
Rokonuddowla, who was also a valorous participant in the Liberation War, passed away at the Jashore 250-bed hospital on Friday at the age of 69. His illustrious career in journalism earned him numerous accolades, and he authored several books, particularly focusing on the War of Liberation.
