Rangpur: The joint forces conducted a raid and seized 1,079 bottles of rectified spirit, arresting two individuals from the Jamtola area of the Pirganj upazila in the district on Thursday afternoon. The arrested individuals are identified as Shree Sukanta Chandra Barman, 34, and Md Rakib Hossain, 22, both residents of Hariram Sahapur village under Pirganj upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was carried out by members of the Bangladesh Army and Police based on a tip-off. They raided a warehouse where the illegal rectified spirit was stored and successfully apprehended the two men involved. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Police Station, Md Shafiqul Islam, confirmed the details of the operation at 6:35 pm.
The OC stated that rectified spirit is considered a deadly drug, and there is a large syndicate allegedly involved in its trafficking and illegal business. To combat this, law enforcement agencies are conducting continuous operations to apprehend all members of the drug syndic
ate.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the arrested individuals, with a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act, 2018, at Pirganj Police Station.
