Mymensingh: Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh has introduced an online vehicle requisition and GPS tracking system to modernize its transport services. Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the university, Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Hoque Bhuiyan, inaugurated this facility, marking a new milestone for BAU’s transport services.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr. AK Fazlul Hoque Bhuiyan expressed gratitude to the ICT Cell and all involved for their contributions to this initiative. The Director of BAU’s ICT Cell, Prof Dr. Md Rostam Ali, briefed students about the new system, which allows teachers, officials, and employees to easily request vehicles via their ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) institutional management profiles. The system provides real-time information on vehicle numbers, driver names, and availability, enabling users to book vehicles with a single click.

The ICT Cell developed the software for the requisition process in alignment with the transport section’s requirements. The GPS tracking component was implemented using devices previously acquired by the Agricultural Cluster Admission Committee for securing exam documents. These devices, which were initially idle, are now repurposed for transport service.

Currently, four long-distance buses have been equipped with GPS trackers, with plans to extend the facility to all university vehicles pending approval from the authorities. The system is accessible on both Android and iOS platforms, allowing real-time tracking of vehicles and quick location identification during emergencies.

The inauguration ceremony featured VC Prof AK Fazlul Hoque Bhuiyan as the chief guest, with Student Affairs Adviser Prof Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque serving as a special guest. Prof Dr. Md. Gulzarul Aziz, Director of the Transport Section of BAU, presided over the event. Also in attendance were Acting Treasurer Prof Md. Humayun Kabir, General Secretary of Teachers’ Association Prof Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Sarkar, and General Secretary of Sonali Dal Prof Dr. Ahmad Khairul Hasan, among others.
