Dhaka: The Bangladesh Army has established a high-level investigation board to examine allegations of abuse made by a former army officer’s ex-wife, which recently gained attention on social media. The complainant, who is the ex-wife of the dismissed officer, has brought forth these serious allegations, as per an ISPR press release.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accused ex-army officer had previously been convicted in a high-profile criminal case, resulting in his dismissal from service. He is currently serving a prison sentence. The Bangladesh Army was already aware of the abuse allegations before they were publicized on social media and had commenced an investigation with the necessary seriousness.

The press release emphasized the sensitivity of the matter and the social dignity of the complainant, leading the Army to take appropriate actions under military law with caution. The senior officer implicated in the allegations has been relieved of his duties, and a dedicated investigation board has been formed to ascertain the facts, with disciplinary measures against the officer currently in progress.

Clarifying the entitlements of a dismissed army member, the release stated that such individuals are not eligible for official accommodations, medical services, or other benefits. Nevertheless, on humanitarian grounds, temporary housing in government quarters was granted to the officer’s family, considering the child’s upcoming SSC examinations.

The Bangladesh Army reiterated its commitment to upholding moral values and discipline within its ranks, asserting that it does not condone unethical or immoral behavior. All allegations against its members are thoroughly investigated, and if validated, strict legal actions are implemented following the law.
