Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus departed for Kuala Lumpur today on a three-day state visit, marking an important engagement with Malaysia. A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carried the Chief Adviser and his entourage from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at approximately 2 pm, as confirmed by Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the visit will primarily focus on migration and investment issues. A significant part of the agenda includes a business conference scheduled for August 12. Following this, on August 13, Professor Yunus will be honored with an honorary doctorate degree by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
The visit will commence with a ceremonial welcome for Prof Yunus, including a guard of honour, where Malaysian Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will officially receive him. A key highlight of the visit will be the bilateral meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on August 12, held at the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya. Post-meeting, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is anticipated to be signed between the two nations.
During his visit, it is expected that five MoUs and three notes of exchange will be concluded. Additionally, Prof Yunus plans to participate in a view-exchange meeting with Bangladeshi expatriates residing in Malaysia.
Accompanying the Chief Adviser is a high-level delegation comprising Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan, National Security Adviser Dr Khalilur Rahman, Special Envoy to the Chief Adviser for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, and BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun.
The Chief Adviser is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on August 13.
