Jamuna Oil and Unilever Contribute Tk. 11.24 Cr to Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation

Dhaka: Jamuna Oil Company Limited, Unilever Bangladesh Limited, and Unilever Consumer Care Limited today donated Tk. 11.24 crore to the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation. Adviser for Labour and Employment and Shipping Brigadier General Dr. M Sakhawat Hussain (retd) received the donation at his office.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the companies contributed the funds from a portion of their annual profits. The Bangladesh Labour Act (amendment) Act 2018 requires industrial establishments to allocate 0.5 percent of their annual profit to the Bangladesh Sramik Kalyan Foundation for the benefit of workers.



Of the total donation, Jamuna Oil Company provided Tk. 8.17 crore, while Unilever Bangladesh contributed Tk. 44.98 lakh, and Unilever Consumer Care donated Tk. 2.61 crore. The initiative was appreciated by the adviser, who stated that the funds would be utilized for the welfare of workers in both formal and informal sectors.



The cheque handover ceremony was attended by the secretary of Labour and Employment and representatives from the contributing companies.
