Two Female Students Drown in Narsunda River Tragedy

Kishoreganj: Two schoolgirls drowned in the Narsunda River at Ashtaka Manikpur village of Gundhar union under Karimganj upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon. The incident has left the local community in shock as they mourn the loss of the young lives.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased were identified as Saifa, a 10-year-old class four student, daughter of Ratan Mia from Dakshin Ashtaka village, and Maymuna, a 9-year-old class three student, daughter of Ikhlas Mia from the same area. Both attended Dakshin Ashtaka Government Primary School.



The tragedy unfolded when the two girls went to bathe in the river after school hours. Despite swift efforts by locals, it took a prolonged search to recover their bodies from the water. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of children in the area.



Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Karimganj Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Mahbub Morshed confirmed the incident. The community is now grappling with the loss and looking towards local authorities for measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
