Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has officially requested the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to provide detailed records of financial transactions involving donations and grants to the Shuchona Foundation and the Center for Research and Information (CRI). These organizations, associated with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, and her son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, respectively, are under scrutiny for alleged financial misconduct.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC’s letter, dispatched last Sunday, emphasizes the urgency of this inquiry, urging NBR to respond by today. ACC Deputy Director (Public Relations) Md. Akhtarul Islam confirmed the pressing nature of this request.
The foundation of the allegations lies in accusations against Saima Wazed Putul, who, along with others, is suspected of embezzling funds from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) accounts of various banks by engaging in irregular practices. Concurrently, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, the CRI Chairman, along with other family members of Sheikh Hasina, faces accusations of diverting state funds for political endeavors.
To ensure a thorough investigation, the ACC deems it crucial to obtain and review essential records legally. A specialized team has been established to delve into these allegations, consisting of seven members and led by Deputy Director Md. Monirul Islam. The team comprises Assistant Director Afnan Jannat Keya, Mubashir Atia Tama, SM Rashedul Hasan, AKM Murtuza Ali Sagar, Mohammad Monirul Islam, and Deputy Assistant Director Md. Abdullah Al Mamun.
