Dhaka: The July Memorial Museum will be inaugurated on August 5 as the work of the museum is almost at its final stage. “Preparations are underway accordingly (to open the museum on August 5),” Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki announced at a press conference at Ganabhaban.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Farooki stated that although the museum will be inaugurated on August 5, it will be officially opened to visitors at a later date. Women and Children Affairs Adviser Sharmeen S Murshid, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, and Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder were present alongside Farooki at the press conference.
Farooki elaborated that the museum will offer visitors an understanding of the reasons behind the July Revolution and the memories of the Awami League’s governance and the mass uprising. He emphasized that while the court will conduct the trial of Sheikh Hasina and her associates, the museum aims to allow visitors to reflect on Sheikh Hasina’s alleged crimes through their own conscience.
The cultural affairs adviser highlighted that a legal framework would be put in place to maintain the museum. Official sources mentioned that the museum would showcase photos of the July uprising, memorials, martyrs’ clothes, letters, important documents, newspaper cuttings, audio-visual materials, and other related items.
Additionally, a special exhibit will be dedicated to the escape scene of the dictator and mass killers, including Sheikh Hasina. The museum will be incorporated as a part of the Bangladesh National Museum.
