Dhaka: World Youth Skills Day will be celebrated tomorrow, aiming to promote the importance of skill development among young people. The theme of this year’s event is ‘Youth Empowerment Through Digital Skills and Artificial Intelligence (AI),’ highlighting the vital role these areas play in preparing the younger generation for future challenges.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, World Youth Skills Day is observed annually on July 15 to acknowledge the strategic significance of equipping young people with the necessary skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. This day serves as a reminder of the need for practical skills development beyond conventional education, especially in a time when social media heavily influences the youth.

In Bangladesh, the interim government formed through the July mass uprising has initiated various programs to transform the youth into valuable human resources, creating employment opportunities for a discrimination-free future. The government is actively providing training aligned with labor market demands at home and abroad to enhance youth employment prospects.

Additionally, the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) is collaborating with public and private sectors to build a robust skills development ecosystem. The day underscores the importance of adapting to changing workplaces and entrepreneurial needs through skill development, which is crucial for building a modern, developed Bangladesh.

The United Nations General Assembly designated July 15 as ‘World Youth Skills Day’ in 2014, to promote employment through technical expertise, vocational education, and training among the global youth community.
