Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman announced today that all killings over the past 15 years, including those from the July mass uprising, will be brought to justice. 'When we get the opportunity, we will ensure justice for every killing that has taken place over the last 15 years, including those in July and August. No matter how long it takes, we will gradually bring each of these killers to justice,' he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tarique Rahman made these remarks while virtually attending a meeting as the chief guest with families of those martyred in the July mass uprising. The event was organized by Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chatra Dal (JCD) to mark the anniversary of the July-August Mass Uprising at a hotel in the city's Gulshan area, attended by family members of 142 martyred individuals from across the country.
Referring to the recent murder of Lal Chand, alias Sohag, in Old Dhaka's Mitford area, Rahman highlighted issues with the ongoing investigation. He stated, "We've received information that the person who committed the murder was brought in from another location." He questioned why the main suspect has not yet been arrested, emphasizing that BNP has always urged for legal action against wrongdoers.
Rahman further pledged that BNP would strive to fulfill the dreams of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives over the past 15 years, focusing on the freedom, sovereignty, and political and economic rights of the people. "BNP will make every effort to uphold their dignity by fulfilling all commitments made to the martyrs," he said.
He also mentioned that with public support, BNP aims to implement a 31-point plan for national reconstruction and state restructuring as outlined in their agenda. Rahman stressed the importance of unity for nation-building and stated, "We have taken all necessary initiatives to foster this unity as we aim to build the country with everyone's participation."
Addressing the ongoing Reform Commission and the July Proclamation, he remarked on BNP's experience in governance and the party's agreement on issues beneficial to the country. He clarified that the BNP believes in the power of the people, the existence of Bangladesh, and the freedom and sovereignty of its citizens.
In closing, Rahman urged vigilance in the present political climate, stating, "Our movement to establish democracy and human rights is not yet over. Therefore, everyone must always remain aware."
The event was presided over by JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib, moderated by General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, and included discussions with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and Students Affairs Secretary Rokubul Islam Bokul as special guests.
