Feni: Disaster Management and Relief Adviser Faruk E Azam has announced that the government is contemplating the involvement of the army in constructing a flood protection dam if deemed necessary. The move is part of a broader strategy to address persistent flood-related issues in the region, particularly in Feni.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Azam shared these insights during a gathering of flood-affected residents at Munshirhat Ali Azam High School in Fulgazi. He emphasized the government's commitment to a permanent solution for the area's flood challenges. Azam assured the public that relief efforts will continue as long as individuals remain in shelter centers, and additional provisions such as rice, pulses, oil, and salt will be distributed to families for a week once they return home.
Addressing inquiries from journalists, Azam highlighted the government's efforts to enhance flood infrastructure by replacing traditional geo-bags with advanced tube bags for dam construction. He reiterated the government's dedication to finding a lasting resolution to the flooding issues. In a bid to reassure the public, Azam noted the absence of casualties in this year's floods, contrasting it with the 2009 disaster that claimed 19 lives in Feni.
Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Mostafizur Rahman, along with other senior government officials, attended the event, underscoring the administration's commitment to tackling the flood crisis.
