Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus emphasized the importance of presenting an impartial and accurate history of the Liberation War through the Ministry of Liberation War's initiatives. He made these remarks during a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk E Azam, Principal Secretary to the Chief Adviser M Siraz Uddin Miah, and other officials from the ministry. Adviser Azam highlighted issues with the current representation of the Liberation War's history, noting that substantial funds have been spent on various projects that fail to provide a comprehensive account of the battlefield and freedom fighters.
Azam pointed out that a significant amount of money, Taka 23 crore, was allocated for a research project on 'Implementation of Bangabandhu's Ideology and the Spirit of the Liberation War,' yet no meaningful research was conducted. He criticized Sheikh Hasina's role in politicizing resources meant for freedom fighters, turning them into a privileged group, and using the facilities for partisan purposes.
He further mentioned the valuable assets under the Muktijoddha Kalyan Trust, stressing the need for a strategic decision on their utilization. The Chief Adviser instructed for the immediate appointment of a consultant and formation of a committee to explore how these properties can enhance the trust's capacity effectively.
During the meeting, Professor Yunus advised that all future projects of the ministry should aim to present the genuine history of the Liberation War. The session also included a review of significant activities undertaken by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs during the interim government and a work plan for the upcoming six months.
