Colombo: Opener Parvez Hossain Emon repaid the team management’s faith in him by hitting a half-century in his only second ODI. He struck a 69-ball 67 in Bangladesh’s second ODI against Sri Lanka at R Premadasa Stadium. Bangladesh were playing this match to level the three-match series following a 77-run defeat in the first match.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, after cementing his place in the T20 format, Emon was given a chance to show his ODI credentials as he made his debut in the first match against Sri Lanka. He failed to live up to expectations in that match, scoring just 13. However, he proved his potential in the second match. He brought his usual style to the match despite the early departure of in-form Tanzid Hasan Tamim and kept the side progressing.
The 23-year-old brought up his fifty off just 48 balls and helped Bangladesh maintain a run rate of over six. However, after reaching his fifty, he slowed down, largely due to the introduction of Wanindu Hasaranga, whose googly and cunning leg-breaks posed challenges for him. Emon, who smashed six fours and three sixes in his innings, was eventually dismissed by a googly from Hasaranga.
After his dismissal, Bangladesh’s run rate further declined.
