Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today inaugurated a month-long programme to commemorate the July Uprising at his office here. “We will observe this (July Uprising) every year so that we can resist autocracy soon after we see any sign of it,” he said while opening the programme around 11 am. The chief adviser said the July Uprising will be observed to resist reemergence of autocracy in the country. “We want to consolidate the unity again…hard time ahead but there is an immense potential as well,” Prof Yunus said. He urged the countrymen to observe the July Uprising as a month of renaissance and unity. Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and Education Adviser CR Abrar also spoke on the occasion.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, to mark the first anniversary of the July Mass Uprising, the interim government has taken the month-long programme. The details of this special programme were announced on June 24, 2025, in a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing.
The programme kicked off on July 1 with prayers offered in mosques, temples, pagodas, and churches in memory of the martyrs. A mass signature campaign demanding justice for the murderers of the July massacre was launched, which will continue until August 1. Additionally, National University scholarships were introduced in memory of the July martyrs.
On July 5, a nationwide postering campaign was initiated to inform citizens about the oppression by the ousted illegal Awami government. This was followed by the launch of a dedicated website, Julyforever.org, on July 7.
July 14, observed as ‘Mora Jhonjar Moto Uddam’, featured the sharing of videos, testimonies from a martyr’s family, and the establishment of a July martyr memorial in every district. Shilpakala Academy screened July videos across 64 districts and universities, with activities such as documentary screening and drone shows held at TSC.
July 15, known as ‘Ami Chitkar Koria Kadite Chahiya’, included video sharing, documentary screenings, and various installations at Dhaka University. July 16, titled ‘Kotha Ko’, saw Shilpakala Academy screening ‘VR shows’ and a memorial programme held at Rangpur Begum Rokeya University.
The programme continued with ‘Shikol pora Chhol’ on July 17, featuring symbolic coffin processions and experience narration programmes at universities. ‘Awaaz Uda’ on July 18 included a symbolic internet blackout and a traction show, while ‘Koto Biplobi Bondhur Rokte Ranga’ on July 19 involved rallies and documentary screenings across the country.
‘Deshta Tomar Baper Naki?’ on July 20 and ‘Rokto Gorom Matha Thanda’ on July 21 included remembrance videos, rallies, and documentary screenings. ‘Avash’ on July 22 saw the inauguration of the ‘Adomya-24’ memorial monument, while ‘Karar Oi Louha Kopat’ on July 23 included global solidarity events and graffiti exhibitions.
On July 24, known as ‘Ki Koreche Tomar Baba’, various activities were organised in memory of child martyrs, including a graphic novel publication. The programme concluded with stage plays on July 25, ‘Cholo Vule Jai’, and gatherings at Suhrawardy Udyan on July 26, ‘Polashir Prantor’, featuring documentaries and a book fair at Bangla Academy.
