Dhaka: Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed announced today the formation of a five-member adviser-level committee to address the ongoing issues at the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Salehuddin made this announcement while responding to reporters’ questions after a meeting with top business leaders at the Finance Ministry conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting aimed to find a resolution to the ongoing movement by NBR staff, which is impacting the country’s export and import activities.
While Dr. Salehuddin did not provide details about the committee members or their specific roles, he mentioned that the committee would focus on discussing potential reforms for the revenue board after consulting with the relevant parties. Business leaders at the meeting emphasized the need for a swift resolution to the NBR movement, which is affecting trade operations.
Notable attendees at the meeting included Abdur Rahman Khan, NBR chairman; Mahbubur Rahman, president of the International Chamber of Commerce Bangladesh (ICC-B); and AK Azad, vice-president of ICC-B. Other participants included Tapan Chowdhury, former president of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA); Syed Nasim Manzur, president of the Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh; and Kamran T Rahman, president of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI).
Additionally, Mir Nasir Hossain, former president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI); Anwar-Ul-Alam Chowdhury (Parvez), president of the Bangladesh Chamber of Industries (BCI); Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, president of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA); Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, executive president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA); and Taskeen Ahmed, president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI), were present to discuss the pressing issue.
