Dhaka: A five-member committee has been established by the government to guarantee the autonomy of Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar, as per the recommendations of the Media Reform Commission. The initiative aims to prepare a roadmap for implementing these recommendations and to review media policies put in place over the last 15 years, while also formulating future policies.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the newly formed committee will be led by Education Adviser CR Abrar. Other members of the committee include Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, and Housing and Public Works Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan. This decision was made during a meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The committee’s formation is part of broader efforts to reform the state-owned media sector, ensuring its independence and alignment with contemporary media practices. Such measures are aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and reach of BTV and Bangladesh Betar in the rapidly evolving media landscape.
