Dhaka: Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter today announced that the country possesses a sufficient stock of sacrificial animals to satisfy the increasing demands for Eid-ul-Azha. She made this statement during her visit to the cattle market at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute playground this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akhter emphasized that there is no need to import cattle from neighboring countries. She noted that law enforcement agencies are actively patrolling border areas to prevent the smuggling of cattle. Additionally, she highlighted the 24/7 monitoring by veterinary surgeons from the Fisheries and Livestock Directorate at cattle markets nationwide, advising traders against the practice of artificially fattening cattle.
Earlier in the day, Akhter participated in a discussion held at the KIB auditorium in the city’s Khamarbari area. The event focused on the treatment provided by veterinary medical teams and the establishment of a monitoring system. The discussion was chaired by Dr. Md Abu Sufian, the Director General of the Directorate of Livestock, and included a welcome address by Dr. Md Jasim Uddin, the Project Director of the Livestock and Dairy Development Project.
In attendance were several officials from the directorate, including Dr. Md Boyzar Rahman, Director of Administration, Dr. ABM Khalequzzaman, Director of Production, and Md Shahjahan Khan, Director of Artificial Insemination.
