Dhaka: German Ambassador to Bangladesh Achim Tr¶ster has expressed Germany’s willingness to assist Bangladesh in transitioning to low carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency, particularly in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) sector. The ambassador emphasized Germany’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s move towards energy-efficient cooling solutions, highlighting the potential of international cooperation to drive significant climate action.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the statement was made during a recent workshop titled ‘Future of Green Cooling Technology of Bangladesh,’ organized by the Department of Environment with support from German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in Dhaka. The German embassy released a statement affirming the collaborative effort between Germany and Bangladesh to advance sustainable solutions in the cooling sector. The Green Cooling Initiative (GCI) III project, implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Department of Environment, has played a crucial role in promoting energy-efficient technologies within the RAC sector and in reducing harmful emissions.

As per the embassy’s release, the conclusion of the GCI project paves the way for the new Green Room Air-conditioning (GRACE) project, marking a significant step towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient future for both nations. The statement also noted that in urban areas, the RAC sector accounts for approximately 40 percent of electricity consumption and contributes over 10 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions in the Global South.
