Gobindaganj: Health experts at a program emphasized the need for early identification of obstetric fistula patients and urged bringing them under treatment facilities in government hospitals to help them return to a healthy and normal life.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, experts highlighted that treatment facilities are available in government hospitals, including Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College, Bogura. They urged the guardians of patients to send them to these hospitals to receive free treatment for early recovery from the disease.

The recommendations were made during an event marking the International Day to End Obstetric Fistula at Gobindaganj upazila, calling for efforts to build an obstetric fistula-free country by 2030. The upazila health complex organized elaborate programs with technical support from UNFPA Bangladesh-funded LAMB Hospital, an NGO assisting the government in this mission by identifying patients at the field level and referring them to government hospitals for proper treatment.

In the morning, a grand rally commenced from the health complex premises, parading the main roads of the upazila town, and concluded at the same venue. Later, a discussion on the significance of the day was held at the conference room of the health complex, chaired by Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Masudar Rahman.

Resident Medical Officer Dr. Fahad Al-Asad served as the resource person, while Junior Consultant (Gynae) Dr. Fahmida Shirin was the chief discussant. A large number of health staff, officials, NGO activists, and invited guests participated in the program.
