Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) today urged all relevant authorities to provide adequate security at the cattle markets. 'A total of 20 cattle markets will be set up in the two city corporations in Dhaka. Necessary security measures will be taken in the cattle markets with deployment of appropriate numbers of Ansar,' he stated during a post-meeting briefing at his ministry office in the Bangladesh Secretariat.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser emphasized the importance of safeguarding the capital, as a large number of city dwellers are expected to leave the city ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, leaving it vulnerable. He instructed law enforcement and city corporation officials to ensure comprehensive security measures in the city.
Jahangir advised residents to take precautionary steps before leaving for their ancestral homes, such as switching off electricity and gas connections and securing all doors and windows. Additionally, he called for improved waste management in the cattle markets to maintain cleanliness.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz, who was present at the meeting, confirmed the approval of 20 cattle markets in the capital. He announced that Ansar personnel would be deployed, and all cattle markets would be monitored through CCTV to ensure security.
Separate mobile teams from the Livestock Ministry will be stationed at the markets to prevent the sale of sick cattle and maintain security. Azaz also mentioned that the cattle markets would be strategically located to minimize traffic congestion, ensuring they are not set up on highways. Each market is required to have designated areas for unloading cattle to prevent road obstruction and improve traffic flow.
