Dhaka: The first consignment of Bangladeshi mangoes is set to be exported to China on May 28, marking a significant step in the trade relations between the two countries. Commerce Adviser Bashir Uddin and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen will be present at the event celebrating this milestone at the CIP gate of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, procedures for importing Bangladeshi jackfruit and guava to China are also underway, indicating further expansion of agricultural trade between Bangladesh and China. The Chinese Ambassador expressed hope for the future export of Hilsa fish to China, citing the eagerness of Chinese consumers to experience this delicacy.
In a related development, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao is scheduled to visit Dhaka on May 31. The visit aims to discuss mutual interests and elevate economic and trade relations between Bangladesh and China. Minister Wentao will lead a delegation of over 100 Chinese investors, highlighting the significance of the visit.
During his two-day stay, Minister Wentao is expected to meet with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus and Commerce Adviser Bashir Uddin, among other engagements. The Chinese Ambassador noted that this would be the largest-ever business delegation from China to Bangladesh, signaling a commitment to openness, cooperation, and mutual benefit.
