Dhaka: Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today forecasted that light to moderate rain or thunder showers are likely to occur in different places across the country for the next 24 hours, beginning this morning.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, “Light to moderate rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions,” the forecast added.
A trough of low pressure lies over West Bengal to North Bay across the Southwestern part of Bangladesh, indicating a continuation of the current weather pattern. Furthermore, the southwest monsoon has advanced up to the Cox’s Bazar coast of Bangladesh, and conditions are favorable for its further advancement. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the North Bay of Bengal and the adjoining area around May 27.
In terms of temperature, the day temperature may remain nearly unchanged, while the night temperature may rise slightly across the country. The country’s maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 34.5 degrees Celsius jointly at Tangail and Nikli, while the minimum temperature today was 24.6 degrees Celsius at both Bogura and Hatiya.
The highest rainfall for the last twenty-four hours until 6 am today was recorded at 74 millimeters (mm) in Patuakhali, indicating significant precipitation in that region. The sun is expected to set in Dhaka at 6:39 pm today and rise at 5:12 am tomorrow.
