Dhaka: The High Court (HC) today published the order issued yesterday rejecting a writ petition concerning the mayoral position of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). The seven-page order was made available on the Supreme Court's (SC) website, stating that the writ petition was deemed not maintainable as the petitioner lacked Locus Standi.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the HC bench comprising Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Debasish Roy Chowdhury delivered the summary order on Thursday. The writ petition was initially filed by Supreme Court lawyer and a DSCC resident, Mamunur Rashid. The challenge was against the Dhaka First Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal's decision, which declared BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as the DSCC mayor.
Senior jurists AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Barrister Kaiser Kamal represented Ishraque Hossain, while Deputy Attorney General Mahfuzur Rahman Milon argued on behalf of the state. The initial ruling, delivered by Judge Md Nurul Islam of the Dhaka First Joint District Judge and Election Tribunal, annulled the 2020 DSCC election results, pronouncing BNP Leader Ishraque Hossain as the mayor on March 27.
Following the HC's order, the election commission issued a gazette notification on April 27, officially declaring Ishraque Hossain as the mayor of DSCC.
