Jashore: Bangladesh Press Council (BPC) Chairman Justice A K M Abdul Hakim emphasized that the professional and social responsibilities of journalists are as important as their freedom. He highlighted the necessity for journalists to present accurate and objective news to combat misinformation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Justice Hakim delivered these remarks as the chief guest at a training workshop organized by the Press Council in collaboration with the Jashore District Administration. The workshop, titled “Preventing Misreporting in the Media and Publishing Objective News,” was chaired by Jashore Deputy Commissioner Md. Azaharul Islam. The event also featured speeches from Press Council Secretary Md. Abdus Sabur, Additional Superintendent of Police Noor-e-Alam Siddiqui, and Jashore Press Club President Zahid Hasan Tukun.

In his address, Justice Hakim criticized the previous government’s “ideological profiteering” and expressed a desire for forgiveness for actions taken under the pretense of the liberation war’s spirit. He pointed out that journalists, despite having representation in all government entities related to media, have not effectively advocated for journalism and press interests.

Justice Hakim stressed that journalists and other professionals should remain free from party political divisions to ensure progress, warning that without such unity, no changes would occur even after another 53 years.
