Chattogram: Cultural Affairs Advisor Mostafa Sarwar Faruqui has announced plans to transform the Zia Memorial Museum into a fully functional museum. This initiative aims to preserve the life and legacy of Ziaur Rahman comprehensively.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Faruqui made these remarks during a press conference held at the Chattogram Circuit House. He emphasized that the museum will undergo a significant transformation, including conducting research on Ziaur Rahman's biography and appointing a curator to provide detailed information to visitors. The museum, which has been closed for the past 16 years, will see various initiatives to revitalize its operations. Furthermore, the budget for the museum has been doubled since Faruqui assumed his role.
The press conference was attended by Secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs Md. Mofidur Rahman and Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Farida Khanam. Faruqui highlighted the government's broader focus on cultural activities, stating that the administration seeks to promote cultural unity across Bangladesh. He noted the government's efforts in organizing significant cultural events, such as the largest New Year celebration since independence and inclusive celebrations of Eid and Buddhist Purnima.
Faruqui also underscored the cultural significance of Chattogram, mentioning traditional events like Jabbarer Boli Khela and Sampan Baich. He announced that from next year, the Ministry of Culture will associate with these events to bolster their prominence. Faruqui tasked the Shilpakala Academy with compiling a list of local festivals to be supported and included in the national cultural calendar.
