Chattogram: Police arrested three activists of the banned student group Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) during a sudden midnight procession at Sultan Baper Bari area of Ward No-7 under Juldha Union in Karnaphuli upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a group of 12 to 15 youths initiated the procession around 11:30 pm on Friday. The brief event, lasting three to four minutes, included slogans such as “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu” and “Sheikh Hasina will return home, like a hero.”
Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Sharif confirmed that police, acting on information about the unauthorized gathering, detained three BCL activists from the scene. One of those detained has been identified as Farhan, 22, the son of Abdul Malek, also known as Ghora Malek, who is currently in custody on separate charges. The identities of the other two detained individuals have not yet been confirmed.
Eyewitnesses reported that the procession was led by Faisal, reportedly the nephew of Md Musa, former president of the Juldha Union Chhatra League, and the son of Mohammad Noor, an Awami League leader arrested on February 11. Videos of the sudden procession were quickly shared on Facebook, prompting rapid action from local law enforcement.
