Chattogram: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee member and Chattogram City Ameer Shahjahan Chowdhury stated that vested quarters are attempting to create divisions among revolutionaries to weaken them. "If this conspiracy succeeds, the vested group will have an opportunity to reinstate the fascists. However, they forget that while students may differ in views and paths, they are united against fascism," he remarked.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chowdhury emphasized the importance of unity against fascism, recalling the July 36 movement as a significant revolution against such tyranny. "The students and masses who stood for democracy and human rights were the main driving force of this movement," he said, addressing journalists at the July Shaheed Smriti Hall of Chattogram Press Club.
CPC Member Secretary Zahidul Karim Kochi presided over the function, with contributions from city Jamaat Secretary Principal Mohammad Nurul Amin, CMUJ President Mohammad Shah Nawaz, and others including City Jamaat Assistant Secretaries Mohammad Ullah and Morshedul Islam Chowdhury. Principal Shamsuzzaman Helali, Dr. AKM Fazlul Haque, and journalist leaders such as Mostafa Nayem, Mohammad Saifullah Chowdhury, Saiful Islam Shilpi, and Hasan Ferdous also spoke at the event.
Chowdhury further criticized the fallen Awami dictatorship for suppressing democracy and establishing a one-party state. He claimed that they had restricted the press by closing all newspapers except four and had compromised the sovereignty of independence to a neighboring country. Furthermore, he accused them of damaging the country's economy through corruption, looting, and money laundering, which ultimately led to their downfall in the face of a public uprising.
