Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today emphasized the interim government's commitment to advancing the country's telecommunication and information technology (IT) sectors, while ensuring transparency and accountability in all related activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chief adviser shared these insights in a message ahead of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which will be observed tomorrow with the theme 'Gender Equality in Digital Transformation.' "I am delighted to learn that World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is going to be celebrated on May 17 in Bangladesh like elsewhere in the world," he stated.
The chief adviser highlighted the importance of equal participation of men and women in all sectors of digital transformation and the utilization of telecommunication and IT services as essential for building a discrimination-free and modern society. He reiterated the interim government's commitment to ensuring equal opportunities and rights for all genders within the digital transformation sphere, reflecting the spirit of the July mass uprising. He remarked, "that is why I think the theme 'Gender Equality in Digital Transformation' was significant."
Professor Yunus also noted the launch of various information technology services through union information and service centers nationwide. He mentioned that initiatives have been undertaken for 'She-STEM' training for female students and special freelancing training for women entrepreneurs.
Bangladesh is on the verge of connecting to a satellite-based high-speed internet network, marking a significant milestone in providing continuous internet service throughout the country, even in remote and inaccessible areas. He called for collective efforts to ensure world-class telecommunication and IT services for the populace.
