Dhaka: The Health Reform Commission has proposed the establishment of an independent public service commission specifically for the health sector, aiming to enhance transparency in the recruitment and promotion processes for key positions.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the commission submitted its report to Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus on May 5, advocating for the new body to have the authority to oversee appointments and promotions for first-class, second-class, and other significant posts in the health sector.
The commission further recommended the creation of a high-level search committee. This committee would be responsible for selecting candidates and making appointment recommendations for top positions, including vice-chancellors, pro-vice-chancellors, and treasurers of medical universities, as well as director generals and principals of medical colleges.
In November of the previous year, a 12-member health reform commission was established under the leadership of Prof Dr AK Azad Khan, president of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh.
