Dhaka: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin today stated that the Election Commission will make a decision regarding the registration of Awami League only after receiving the official gazette concerning the ban on its activities. "We've not yet received the gazette. We're awaiting the notification and will decide once it arrives," he mentioned.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CEC made these comments during a media briefing after a meeting with a delegation from the Carter Center at the commission's office in Agargaon. He emphasized patience by saying, "Just wait... once the sun rises in the sky, everything will become clear."
In response to inquiries, Nasir Uddin stressed that decisions cannot be based solely on media reports. He stated, "We will review the notification once it is issued and then make a decision. Let the notification come first." He further highlighted the constitutional nature of the Election Commission, stating, "The Election Commission is definitely a constitutional body, and we're fully aware of it. We are currently awaiting the gazette notification."
Addressing another question, the CEC reiterated that the gazette had not yet been received. "Once the government's gazette reaches us, we will convene a commission meeting to make a decision," he clarified. He concluded by saying, "At this moment, we didn't take any action. Although we're aware of media reports, we can't comment without officially receiving the exact information."
