Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) announced that several measures are being implemented to prevent extortion, snatching, and other criminal activities to ensure a secure celebration of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha nationwide.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser disclosed these plans following the 9th meeting of the advisory council on law and order, held at the ministry's conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat. The strategies involve deploying 100 Ansar personnel at each cattle market to curb snatching, pickpocketing, and activities of dope gang members. Additionally, there will be increased intelligence surveillance and patrols on highways to prevent extortion and facilitate a smooth journey for home-goers ahead of the Eid celebrations.
The Home Adviser emphasized the importance of deploying Ansar personnel at cattle markets to eliminate extortion and criminal activities. He also instructed the highway police to prevent extortion from vehicles transporting sacrificial animals and ensure a hassle-free journey for home-goers and cattle traders. He warned that extortion would not be tolerated and urged journalists to play a proactive role in informing the Home Ministry about any potential extortion incidents.
Furthermore, the government will prohibit the entry of animals from outside the country, citing a sufficient domestic production of sacrificial animals this year. In response to inquiries, the Home Adviser acknowledged that the recovery of seized arms remains unsatisfactory.
