Narayanganj: A case has been filed at the Narayanganj District Judge Court against Sheikh Hasina, several former chief election commissioners, and other high-profile individuals, accusing them of holding national elections without voter participation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Advocate Abdul Bari Bhuiyan, the former president of the Narayanganj District Bar Association, is the complainant in the case. The accused include Sheikh Hasina, her son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, and former ministers Anisul Huq, Kamrul Islam, Obaidul Quader, and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. Also named are Mohammad A. Arafat, former chief election commissioners Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad, K.M. Nurul Huda, Kazi Habibul Awal, former chief justice Mozammel Hossain, and former deputy attorney general Md. Ashiq-ul-Haque, among others.

The complaint alleges that the accused conspired to conduct the 10th parliamentary election without voter participation, exerting pressure on subordinates to ensure the election process was carried out as planned. It also claims that the last three general elections under Sheikh Hasina’s administration were plagued by irregularities, fraud, and manipulation.

The petition further asserts that these actions breached constitutional responsibilities and compromised national sovereignty, effectively making Bangladesh a ‘tributary state’ under foreign influence. It concludes that such activities amounted to criminal offenses, causing significant damage to the democratic and constitutional framework of the country.
