Govt Approves Procurement of LNG and Fertilizer to Meet Demand

Dhaka: The government today approved separate proposals for procuring two cargoes of LNG and 25,000 metric tons of fertilizer to meet the country’s growing demand. The approvals came from the 18th meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase (ACCGP) held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed presiding over the session.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 10 proposals were approved during the meeting. Following a proposal from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Petrobangla is set to procure one cargo of LNG from M/S Vitol Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore, from the spot market using the international quotation method, at an estimated cost of around Taka 549.09 crore.



In addition, Petrobangla will procure another cargo of LNG from the same Singapore-based company through the same method, with the cost expected to be approximately Taka 555.32 crore. Furthermore, in response to a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) will procure 25,000 metric tons of TSP fertilizer from Groupe Chimique Tunisien (GCT), Tunisia. This procurement will be conducted under a state-level agreement at a cost of around Taka 156.69 crore, with the cost per ton being $513.75.
