Milan: Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed today announced that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed satisfaction with the recent improvements in Bangladesh’s economy. ‘ADB said we are very happy in case of Bangladesh’s achievement in economy compared to many other countries. We (ADB) know that you (Bangladesh) are going to graduate from LDCs. We (ADB) are keeping eyes on Bangladesh for its development,’ he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Salehuddin shared these remarks while speaking to reporters after a meeting with ADB Vice President for South, Central, and West Asia, Yingming Yang, at the 58th ADB Annual Meeting in Milan, Italy. He further mentioned that the ADB is committed to providing necessary support to Bangladesh, particularly in the areas of banking sector reforms and the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
The finance adviser assured that the government is planning a realistic and manageable budget for the fiscal year 2025-26. ‘Our main issues are to reduce expenditure and increase efficiency. We are very much aware to reduce our expenditure. We are also careful to take projects,’ he emphasized.
Dr. Salehuddin also noted that ADB will continue supporting existing infrastructure projects and is keen on implementing upcoming pipeline projects. ‘During the meeting, ADB Vice President wanted to know about the current situation of the country’s economy. We informed him, our economic situation is now very good. Our all sectors, including banking and NBR, have performed well,’ he added.
