Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on former Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Major General (Retd) Hamidul Haque and his wife Nusrat Jahan Mukta due to allegations of corruption.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, accepting a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The plea detailed an ongoing investigation into allegations that Hamidul and his wife embezzled government funds by exploiting their positions and accumulated illegal wealth in their names and those of their family members.
The ACC expressed concerns that the accused might attempt to flee the country to avoid prosecution, prompting the immediate imposition of the travel ban.
In a related case, the same court today also enacted travel bans on Abbas Uddin and Nazim Uddin Bhuiyan, associates of former state minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad A. Arafat. Additionally, Abbas's wife, Nurun Nahar, was also subjected to a travel restriction.
